MSEK 5 grant from VINNOVA

The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems, Vinnova, has decided to fund a 3-year Scandivir project regarding diagnostics and treatment of virally induced obesity with MSEK 5. The project is carried out by Dr. Catharina Lavebratt at Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) and Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.

ELISA test being prepared for commercialization

In May, 2009, the Board of Scandivir concluded that the company's R&D work has resulted in a commercial solution for diagnosis of the obesity virus Ad-36. An ELISA test, the most common technical platform used by diagnostic laboratories all over the world, is now being optimized for accuracy and industrial production, with commercialization as the next step. This is not only Scandivir's first product, but it will also be the first ELISA test for Ad-36 on the market.

Welcome to Scandivir AB

Scandivir is a joint venture between industry and science, focused on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of virus related diseases.

Scandivir's business concept is to develop simple and rapid diagnostic methods to detect infection with the obesity related virus Adenovirus-36 (Ad-36), and antiviral treatments for Ad-36 and other relevant viruses that cause diseases and problems for humans and animals.

The company's operations is divided into two main areas: Diagnostics and Treatments.

On the diagnostics side, the first objective is to develop a test kit to detect infection with the virus Ad-36, which is likely to be contributing to the global obesity epidemic. An ELISA test for professional users is being prepared for production and commercialization, and the next step is to develop a kit for home use.

On the treatments side, the objective is to develop antiviral treatments for those who find themselves infected with Ad-36, as well as other viruses that affect humans and animals. One interesting example is the virus causing the common cold, against which a patented sea cucumber extract in Scandivir's portfolio has shown promising results in previous studies.
